About Me I'm Sam. Of the girl variety, not the boy which is a mistake made far more often than I could have ever realized. Oh well. I am twenty four years old and married (quite happily). I have several hobbies but my most obvious is apparently Role Playing. It's really amazing when I look at how many aspects of my life involve role play. I've been rping since I was ten years old and can say I'm one of those kids basically raised by the internet. So I might be a little warped. I do have other hobbies though. I cosplay. Costumes are something I've been passionate about since before I was allowed on the internet. I also collect Ball Jointed dolls, LARP (when possible), make jewelry, and play WoW. I adore fighting video games and tabletop RPG. Also, action figures seem to congregate at my house. About Magistia Oh poor, poor Magistia. The name 'Magistia' itself actually came from a game a friend and I used to play when we were kids. Like, eleven I think. Anyways, her mom bought her a copy of "Tales of the Crystals" from a yard sale. For those of you that are thinking "Uh...Okay?", Tales of the Crystals was pretty much a role playing game. You were given 'quests' from a cassette tape that you played from behind a tree. I think one of these quests required that you sprinkle a magic powder (which was sugar) into a lake to cure it of impurities? I don't know. It was lame, girly, and fantastic. For more information, have a look Well we fell in love with this game and went through all of the missions. Twice. However we eventually got bored with it (I.E. We broke the tape) but our love for this game still wasn't over. We decided that we were going to create a magic kingdom for ourselves. We wanted to give it an awesome name and decided to combine the words Majestic and Magic. Then we decided that magic kingdoms all have "-ia" at the end of it. Give me a break. We were eleven. The story was that she and I were the most powerful witches in all of the kingdom and that we did quests for the queen. She had an arch nemesis that wanted nothing more than to destroy her and Magistia named Hactivar who was always sending his evil shadow minions to try to destroy her. We entered this magic kingdom by swirling our wands over our heads (Sticks we found on the ground) and doing a spin jump. Wow, I've not thought about this in years. While it was fun, our games eventually came to an end. It wasn't something you really played alone. It's no fun if you don't have the other there to add to it. She moved to her dad's house in another town and our communication was limited to letters. Eventually the story came to its logical end. Hactivar was defeated but not before he managed to poison the queen of Magistia. Upon her death, my friend and I were declared the queens. The kingdom was divided into two parts never to be spoken of again. Okay. Obviously not. A few years later I was loafing around MSN chats and decided I wanted to start a role play. I considered joining one or two but I didn't want to be just another face in the crowed. I wanted to be the queen and I didn't want to rely on some guy deciding his character needed mine for a girlfriend. On January 18th, 2001 I created Magistia. The name seemed natural to me as it reminded me of a happier time and I was quite frankly drawing a blank for a name. We had an MSN community with rules as I wanted this to be structured. Then followed an incredible five years. There were people who were happy to see me there. I had more of a voice there than I had ever had anywhere else. I couldn't be happier. Granted, there were a lot of stories that took place there that make me cringe to think about but I had an amazing time. Sadly all good things must come to an end and eventually we all just seemed to grow out of it. In an attempt to save it, I bought a domain and created a forum for it but eventually we just had to face the truth. As of January 18th, 2011 it will have been a part of my life for ten years. One of my best friends in the world was a result of that site and I learned a lot about leadership and commanding respect. We don't go back there anymore despite the fact the domain remains. It was there for us during a time when we were uncertain as to how to deal with the real world. I can't speak for everyone but there will always be a place in my twisted little heart for that game. I don't think I could ever forget it. Check it out if you like HERE |
